This practice does NOT routinely notify patients when test results are normal.
You will be notified of any clinically significant results as soon as possible.
However at any time during business hours, you can:
- call the nurse to obtain results
- view the results via the MyIndici Patient Portal
- request a copy of the results to be sent to you
If you wish to discuss an interpretation of your results, you may book a Nurse consultation (a phone appointment usually works well for this). Please be aware that charges will apply. A Doctor is not routinely available to discuss results.
Patients are asked to notify the practice if any of their personal details change:
- change of address
- change of mobile number
- change of email address
This is vitally important to ensure that notification of results or follow-ups are not missed due to the patients not being contactable.
How to read your results:
Type of result | Abbreviation | What does this mean? |
Normal | N Ok | This means the Dr has reviewed your results and decided they are normal. No follow up is needed usually, however, you can book a phone appointment to discuss with a Nurse if you would like more information (please be aware charges apply). Your result will be available to view on the patient portal. |
Stable | S | This means the Dr has reviewed your results and decided they are similar to previous results. Sometimes the results are not normal, but unless there is a significant change then it is safe to continue to watch those results. No follow up is needed usually, however, you can book a phone appointment to discuss with a Nurse if you would like more information (please be aware charges apply). Your result will be available to view on the patient portal. |
Not significant | NS | This means the Dr has reviewed your results and decided they are not serious. There may be abnormal results, but sometimes this is because of the way a test is done, or you may already have a treated infection. No follow up is needed usually, however, you can book a phone appointment to discuss with a Nurse if you would like more information (please be aware charges apply). Your result will be available to view on the patient portal. |
Negative | Neg | This means the Dr has reviewed your results and it is negative for what was tested. Follow up will be dependant on the type of testing. Sometimes the nurses may contact you about a result like this. If you are unsure, please contact the Nurses for confirmation. Your result will be available to view on the patient portal. |
Positive | Pos / + | This means the Dr has reviewed your results and it is positive for what was tested. A follow up is often recommended. If it is a very critical result, the Dr may have already tried to call you or sent a text. You may have already been prescribed medication based on this result. Your result will be available to view on the patient portal. |
Consistent with current condition | CCC | This means the Dr has reviewed your results and decided they are expected, or match the condition we are monitoring you for. No follow up is needed usually, you can book a phone appointment to discuss with a Nurse if you would like more information. If you wish to change your current plan you should book an appointment with your Dr. Sometimes the nurses may contact you about a result like this – for example Warfarin monitoring. Your result will be available to view on the patient portal. |
Requires review | RR | This means the Dr has reviewed your results and decided they are NOT normal. A follow up is often recommended. If it is a very critical result, the Dr may have already tried to call you or sent a text. We need to schedule an in-person appointment to discuss this result. You results may NOT be immediately available to view on the patient portal. |
Requested by hospital/specialist – to be followed up by them | RFU | When other doctors outside the practice order tests for you, these will usually end up in your results section. It is the responsibility of those other doctors to tell you what it means. If there is a result that you want more information about sometimes your Dr may not be an expert in that test and it is better to discuss it with the person who ordered it. |
No action required | NAR | This means the Dr has reviewed your results and decided they are normal or not significant and you don’t need to do anything. No follow up is needed usually, however, book an appointment to discuss it with them if you would like more information. A telephone consultation may be useful in this case (please be aware normal charges apply). You result will be available to view on the patient portal. |
